I’m Emily Hamblin and I started Hard-Pressed Studio as a side project. A dabble into the waters of printing with a linoleum carving kit from my fiance and an invitation to sit in on a few classes my printer friend Guy Stricklin taught. I became smitten with the art style.
I fell in love with the process and creative medium. I love the physicality of carving the blocks. I enjoy the puzzles inherent in the process of designing images backwards, lining up blocks and paper, playing with inks, adding watercolor, deciding on using a press, or hand pulling a block…all provide puzzles. Each print is a unique expression of ink transferring from block to paper or fabric.
